Back during the good ol’ days of the site, I had a page where I listed all the would-be Pokémon… y’know, Pokémon that was official at one point, but—for one reason or another—they never ended up in the final version of Gold/Silver.

Fast forward nearly twenty years later, and my list of would-be Pokémon was just as accurate as it ever was. But I wouldn’t realize HOW accurate it really was until the day that both Space World ’97 and ’99 ROMS would be leaked… which not only backed up everything I heard all those years ago, but it would add much more to the list as well!

So long story short, this page is simply the “Next Generation” of my old “Lost Pokémon” page… namely, it’s the list of all the Beta Pokémon found in both Space World ROMS. Although I later plan to include in the forth coming “GS Space World” Fake Card sets, this page is focused mostly on getting all the actual data about these beta Pokémon in one spot. So even if you’re not interested in the fake cards, just the idea of getting all this information together in one location is important enough, which is why it’s currently posted under “Research”.

This is, however, a work in progress, so a lot of this information is incomplete. I’ll add more information about what’s what in due time.

This is a quick to-do list for me for this list:

  • Remove fake card design notes
  • add in remaining missing pictures
    • also include info about other Unown types
  • sort Pokémon in a more practical number order
  • include names and other data, if applicable; other data includes
    • “xxxx Pokémon” type
    • elemental type(s)
    • height/weight
    • dex entry

Just some general notes in deciphering this chart:

  • Any Pokémon name in this form means that its Japanese name was changed from what is listed here and its final, official release.
    • This is assuming that Pokémon is an official Pokémon and was not removed before Gold/Silver’s official release.
  • There may be up to six different ID numbers for each Pokémon entry. These numbers represent:
    1. “PA! Megadex” entry number — This is my own unique numbering system just to keep things in order. It’s based on the Johtodex order seen in HeartGold/SoulSilver
    2. Official National Dex entry number — Officially official Pokémon
    3. Space World 1997 Pokédex entry number — Sprites from the 1997 Space World ROM
    4. Space World 1999 (build 980506) sprite extraction number — Sprites extracted from the 1999 Space World ROM, but not part of it
    5. Space World 1999 Pokédex entry number — Sprites from the 1999 Space World ROM
    6. Space World 1999 (build 990613) Pokédex entry number — Sprites from another build of the 1999 Space World ROM
    • These colors are also used to denote which sprite came from which Space World Prototype ROM build; just match the colors to get the related ID number for that sprite.
    • Since the last two numbering systems are for GS game builds which were close to their final release, their numbers will generally match their official Pokédex numbers. However, some differences do exist, which the list will point out.
    • If the entry is empty, it means that particular Pokémon does not exist in that particular game. …or maybe because I forgot to add the number.
    • For now this list will be ordered by my “Megadex” number system, but I may have it set up so that you can order it by any of the other number systems.

However, given that Azumarill’s sprite is just a Marill with two tails, I think this decision was only very recently made.
