The Actual News:
Oh man, I’ve been working on I haven’t had this much fun working on Pokémon TCG fake cards and blanks in a LOOONNNG time. At least not since I made those special Worlds 2010 Promo fakes which my friend Eskil (aka TEGO) helped me translate into Japanese, and also surprised everyone!
…or the Worlds 2011 Promos (aka my Secret Shame)…
I mean, c’mon, this was before the whole Brony thing took off! I thought My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic thing was just an inside joke on 4chan and I was doing it for the meme value! How was I supposed to know that it would be what it became a couple years down the road?? (ㅠㅅㅠ)
Anyways… I’ve been doing a lot of work on the new GS Blanks for the Space World ’97 set, and here’s where I am now. I’ll try to keep things quick, but you know me…
Neo Swoops
First off, I spent some time to get the Neo Swoops to look as clean and as awesome as I’ve ever made them look… but even then I think I could do even better. But in the mean time, you can see the swoops I’ve made, which are (going left to right, top to bottom):
- Grass – Fire
- Water – Lightning
- Fighting – Psychic
- Colorless
- Darkness – Metal
- Dragon – Fairy
Pretty neat, huh?
Type Symbols
Speaking of Types, I managed to get the symbols looking clean, but it’s still a work in progress. I also need to make a Neo-era style symbol for Dragon-type. However, I have a different plan for Fairy-types.
Psychic Fairies
What’s this, a Fairy-Psychic symbol? Well, with the new Sword/Shield TCG set, they’re removing Fairy-types and shifting them to Psychic-types (with Poison-types moving over to Darkness). Unfortunately this change happened AFTER I already made up the Fairy backgrounds, so I was left with a dilemma on what to do with them; like… should I just dump everything I did, or just keep the Fairy-type even though it really doesn’t make much sense in the GS-era?
Well, long story short, I chose to shift all Fairy-types to Psychic-types as well, BUT I’ve also chosen to use the Fairy blanks on those now-Psychic Fairies. That is to say, technically they’ll remain Psychic-types… it’s just that their blanks will look like Fairy-types instead.
Incidentally this also forced a shift of types for other Pokémon, in order to maintain a type balance. You can see that update on the Space World ’97 set page.
New Baby Rule (also Rule Box)
Another change/update I’ll be making is with the Baby Rule, as well how Rule Boxes (for stuff like Pokémon-EX, Mega Pokémon, Pokémon V and V-Max, etc) will appear in the set. The original Baby Rule—where you had to flip a coin in order to attack it—was just too OP and too annoying to use. So I decided to make a new Baby Rule, one that is more akin to the EX and V-Max rules involving Prizes. But instead of drawing 2 oe 3 prizes when they’re Knocked Out, Baby Pokémon actually net ZERO prizes for the opponent, and you can return everything attached to it to your hand. This in turn would allow the player using the Baby Pokémon to use them a little bit risk-free, only to then evolve them to something more powerful.
Honestly, I don’t see how this could be any more OP than flipping a coin… rather, I think it’s kinda tame. BUT it does give me a chance to play with the rules a bit, which is one reason why I’ve always enjoyed making fakes.
That aside, that Rule Box will also be what other Rule Boxes will look like… though whether it’ll have the “Evo-Circle” as well will depend on what it is. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
I think that just about covers my updates to the set and where I’m at with the Blanks. I still have a lot left to cover, but I’m definitely not sitting around with my thumb up my butt with them!
Speaking of new blanks… I think there might be some OTHER blanks appearing on the site soon… I wonder what they might be??
