The Actual News:
A new Pokémon Direct! Set hype levels to… 6.8 out of 10. If you didn’t get to see it yet, check it out here!
Isn’t that awesome! … Oh, wait… sorry, I forgot not everyone can read Korean… here’s the English one:
Well first off, I guess this explains where all the other 500-someodd Pokémon went! They’re just poking around the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra! See, there’s no reason to complain! (Actually, I’ve got a few thoughts about all this, including the lack of Korean in the Rescue Team DX Demo, but that’s going to be covered n another post… stay tuned!)
Anyways… Game Freak’s releasing some DLC for Sword/Shield, and it’s got some Galarian language text in it just the same. Not that that was ever in question.
New Galarian Words in the New Galarian Regions!
OK so, while everyone is talking about DLC-this and new Pokémon-that… here comes me with my hype on all the new Galarian words that appeared in the video! There wasn’t much, sadly, but still enough to cover in this post. Take a look!
The first DLC, The Isle of Armor, comes with a new dojo to train in, run by a new character named Mustard. The Dojo comes with its own logo, which is pictured on the right.
Now it clear that the name of the Dojo itself is simply rq^f^. But that said, I’m not sure if the logo itself is intended to be part of the name, or is just a simple logo. In either case, given that the Dojo’s master is “Mustard”, I strongly believe that it’s intended to be the Galarian letter M, given that it looks like the English/romaji character “M”.
Another thing worth pointing out is the fact that this text is a completely new word, one that doesn’t already exist somewhere, and isn’t “garbage text” (which I’ll talk about in another post). This just means to me that they are definitely proactive in how they create Galarian text, versus all the text being something they slapped together and are just pulling random bits out whenever they need it. This was one that seems deliberately chosen for this role. Hmmm….
In another part of the video, they showed off these new uniforms which sponsor logos all over the place. I guess when you’re the top player in the game, everyone wants you to be their shill! I can even hear it now… “Now I wanna… be your shill!”
Joking aside, there’s a few new companies on the uniform… at least ones I haven’t seen yet in the game. I had to take a guess on the one at the top, which looks like a Skwovet-based pharmaceutical company… while the bottom one has extra letters in the banner which is just way too small to see.
Another new “logo/word” is the League championship logo smack-dab in the center of the top-shirt, which looks like it’s been changed slightly to include two people instead of one. The word below it is b61ozqaecr; it’s interesting to me because it looks like it could be two separate words, seeing as it looks like the first half is b61oz—which uses “lower-case” characters—while the other half—qaecr—uses all “upper-case” letters. That is to say, Galarian words don’t tend to mix lower-case and upper-case letters, other than a single upper-case letter leading a string of lower-case letters. In both cases, howeve, neither appear in my Galarian Word List… thus showing again that the artists are still creating unique words which are intended to have some kind of meaning to them.
And finally the only two other words I saw in the video which stuck out and was worth looking into. Unfortunately, however, neither of them are new, and the one pictured on the right—712n—is just garbage text. The other one, teqsj, is just “Psychic” (as in, the Psychic-type), which makes sense.
While it’s too bad that that one on the sign is just garbage text, it actually drives home the idea that the other new words were deliberately designs versus more garbage text as well.
But anyways, that just about rounds up all the new Galarian words that were seen in the Pokémon Direct video. Not much, but still quite informative!
